Flotsam & Jetsam of the Bay

A few months ago I attended a workshop with Sarah Hymas at Sunderland Point focusing on ‘writing the flotsam and jetsam of Morecambe Bay’ which was organised by Morecambe Bay Partnership.

Sunderland Point is an beautiful yet isolated peninsula on the coast of Lancashire looking out across the Lune estuary and Morecambe Bay. The only access is via a single track road across the tidal marshes and it is cut off twice a day by the tides.

At the beginning of the workshop we were encouraged to scavenge bits and pieces from the estuary. A piece of black and dried-out seaweed provided the inspiration for my poem ‘A Seaweed Charm’ which has recently been published in the ‘Flotsam & Jetsam of the Bay’ anthology which can be read HERE.
