Dandelions in Greencroft Valley

On suburb’s horizon
they thrive on the edge
of road and hedgerow,
fire lion heads
a-blaze with yellow,
a-roar with golden heat
brandishing jagged leaves
all raggedy underneath.

Gnashing lion’s teeth
they colonize
the buffer zone
readying the soil
for nature’s home coming.
The imperilled bee drinks
from the golden crown,
until fierce petals close down.

A soft reopening
breathes out seeds into view,
white stars grace filaments
before a careful moon,
a wind of wishes
grants lift to the parachutes
taking each potent seed
to a lion’s birth.
