Marsh Way Pond

For Elizabeth Basquill and the Friends of Marsh Way Pond

On the edge of Marsh Way
where the marsh is gathered in,
gather round the edges,
learn to breathe through your skin.

See beneath the surface
scaly wisdom marshalling,
the last lore of a marshland
drained and sacrificed for housing.

Enter my vestibule
where ancient life is thriving,
diving down the murky ways
slicking, paddling, gliding

by hornwort’s feathered waving edge
through shadow water thick with time.
Watch the water boatman kick
and find the newt in his crested hide.

On Marsh Way’s edge
where the marsh is gathered in,
gather round the sedges,
see my frog face, come and swim.
